Fairgrounds rally mixes red, white, blue, green

CENTRAL POINT ' A rally organized by People for the USA whose theme is Restore the Spirit of America begins at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Jackson County Fairgrounds.

In addition to drumming up patriotic spirit, the rally is intended to increase public awareness about the global green agenda with a variety of speakers and programs, organizers said.

The event includes concerts by country music superstar Joe Diffie at — p.m. and again at 7 p.m. in the main arena.

Featured speakers at the rally include former Congresswoman Helen Chenoweth-Hage of Idaho at noon, followed by former Greenpeace leader Patrick Moore of Canada at 12:30 p.m.

Chenoweth-Hage was known for speaking out against the environmental community during her years in Congress.

Moore, who has a doctorate degree in environmental science, is now an outspoken opponent of environmental extremism.

Rogue Valley resident Holly Swanson, the event's local organizer, will speak at 1:30 p.m. Two years ago Swanson founded Operation Green Out!, a nonprofit group dedicated to removing what it believes is a political environmental agenda from public schools.

National Restore the Spirit Awards will be given out at 2 p.m., followed by a presentation on the state of the salmon by James Buchal at 3:30.

Other events include a barbecue from 4 to 6 p.m. Entertainment by the Sons of the Oregon Trail and the Wade Black Band will be provided from 5 to 6 p.m.

People for the USA bills itself as a counter balance to environmental extremism.
