Elections office moves this week

Since you asked

You've reported in the past that the county elections office is going to move, but they are still in the same place. Have plans been changed?

' Wanda W., Central Point

No Wanda, plans haven't changed. In fact, your question couldn't be more timely because the moving trucks are pulling up to the old courthouse this week.

County Clerk Kathy Beckett said the staff had hoped to move back in July, but because the county has been so involved with verifying signatures for statewide initiatives, they haven't had the time. But elections are rolling around and Beckett knew it was time to get moving.

We've got so much going on, Beckett exclaimed. It's exciting and frustrating at the same time.

The elections department will be closed Wednesday and Thursday during the move. The new elections center will be at 1101 W. Main St. in Suite 201.

Wednesday and Thursday we cut the cords and move our phones and computers and hopefully we are up and open on Friday in the new location, Beckett said.

The phone number will stay the same: 774-6148.

If you want to see the new digs, a grand opening will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

That will be awesome for people to come, Beckett said. We'll have boxes everywhere but at least you'll be able to see the facility.
