Time for leaves to go

The fallen colors of autumn will be carted away starting next week

Leaf pick-ups will begin next week in Medford and later this month in other area cities.

In Medford, Rogue Disposal and Recycling will do curb-side leaf pick-ups three times between Nov. 4 and Dec. 27.

Residents are asked to place leaf-filled plastic bags on the sidewalk. Bags are available at Rogue Disposal office, 135 W. Main St. The first 10 bags are free and residents can buy up to 30 bags for &


Residents outside of the city limits may take their leaves to the transfer station at 8001 Table Rock Road, with costs beginning at &

36;5 per load.

Rogue Disposal composted 1,000 tons of leaves last year.

Leaf recycling services in other cities includes pick-up of bagged leaves in Phoenix and two free turn-in days for residents in Talent and Ashland.

Phoenix Public Works Department and the Phoenix Lions' Club will pick up bagged leaves on Sunday, Nov. 17. After that date residents can call public works for pick-up.

The city crew volunteers its time, said Phoenix Public Works Director Jim Wear. Lions Club members usually assist the five-man city department. Residents are asked to keep bag weight under 40 pounds.

We put three 30-yard bins at the cemetery and have a back hoe to pack them down, said Wear. We fill them up every time.

Rogue Disposal donates two bins and the city pays for the other. Rogue Disposal composts the leaves.

Leaf recycling for residents in Ashland Sanitary & Recycling Service's area will be offered at the Water Street Recycling Depot in Ashland on two Tuesdays, Nov. 12 and Nov. 26. The service area includes Talent.

Brush and wood debris will not be accepted at the depot. Other recycling services at the depot are not available on the leaf days. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Valley View Transfer Station accepts leaves and brush for &
