Passing on right OK, but not in bike lane

Is it against the law to pass a car on the right by going into the bike lane?

It is against the law to pass a vehicle using a designated bike lane, said Medford police Sgt. Bob Sergi. However, it is legal to cross a fog line provided you stay on pavement.
A bike lane is adjacent to the roadway and designated by official signs or markings. A white line on the road is not necessarily a bike lane.
Although drivers who pass a string of cars on the right can be cited for unsafe passing, it is all right to pass the car directly in front of you provided that you do not leave the pavement and you are not in the bike lane, Sergi said.
