Deputy DA is named prosecutor of the year

The Oregon Narcotics Enforcement Association has named Judi Harper, a Jackson County deputy district attorney, as prosecutor of the year.

Harper has worked at the district attorney's office for 12 years and has prosecuted a wide range of offenses. In January 2001, she was named to the county's drug-trafficking task force. During the past year, she prosecuted 166 narcotics offenders in state court and 23 offenders in federal court, the task force reported.

The narcotics enforcement association also named Jackson County Narcotics Enforcement Team detective Steve Holthus as one of the state's top drug investigators. He was nominated as investigator of the year for the Southern Oregon region that includes Coos, Curry, Douglas, Josephine, Jackson, Klamath and Lake counties.

Holthus has worked for the Jackson County Sheriff's Department for 13 years and with JACNET since 1997.

Holthus and Harper received their awards Dec. 4 in Beaverton at a conference of the nonprofit Oregon Narcotics Enforcement Association.
