Eagle Point man dies after falling from horse

Ronald R. Lawson may have had a heart attackPolice speculate that a heart-attack may have triggered a fatal horseback riding accident that claimed the life of an Eagle Point man Sunday afternoon.

At this point, we just don't know, added Jackson County Sheriff's Capt. Joe Puckett.

According to Puckett, Ronald R. Lawson, 60, was horseback riding with a large group of companions along an equestrian trail near Blackwell and Upton roads prior to the accident.

The group set out at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Lawson was apparently racing with another man at approximately 5:15 p.m. when he ran into a line connecting a utility pole to the ground, Puckett said.

Puckett said Lawson was unconscious when he fell from the horse. His riding companion quickly sought help, he added.

Lawson was transported to Providence Medford Medical Center by Fire District — personnel, where he was pronounced dead. The case remains under investigation.

Puckett said it remains unclear if Lawson experienced a heart attack before or after the accident.
