Crash victim remains critical

A Prospect man remained in critical condition in a Medford hospital Monday, a day after he was injured in a one-car crash that killed a second Prospect man outside of the northern Jackson County town, authorities said.

Austin Robert Ridge, 21, remained in the intensive-care unit at Providence Medford Medical Center, where he was airlifted after the early-morning accident along Highway 62.

Oregon State Police troopers believe Ridge was a passenger in Jeffery Michael Forgey's 1988 Toyota 4Runner that crashed at about 4:50 a.m. near milepost 35, the OSP said.

Neither man wore a seat belt, and both were ejected from the vehicle, the OSP said.

Forgey was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

There was no indication that alcohol was involved, and no citations were planned in connection with the wreck, OSP Lt. Tanya Henderson said Monday.
