Fire calls

Structure fire '

No one was injured in a fire that destroyed part of a Newtown Street duplex Tuesday morning.

Crews from the Medford Fire Department went to a duplex in the 900 block of Newtown Street just after 7 a.m. in response to the fire. When firefighters arrived, they saw smoke billowing out the front door. Firefighters were able to confine the fire to a bedroom, while the rest of the unit was damaged by smoke and heat. The fire was started accidentally, according to the fire department.

Auto crash '

A tractor-trailer carrying a load of frozen vegetables flipped onto its side Tuesday afternoon and slowed traffic on an Interstate 5 on-ramp for hours while crews cleaned up the mess, an Oregon State Police dispatcher said.

The accident on the southbound on-ramp at Exit 24 was reported to OSP at about — p.m., but police stayed on the scene until early evening. No further information was made available on the Phoenix-area crash.
