Council honors military service
Eight city employees were honored by the Medford City Council during its meeting Thursday for serving in the armed forces. Each was called to active duty since Sept. 11, 2001, and served several months or more.
The employees are: Mark Patterson, police department, Air Force; Brett Johnson, police department, Air Force and Army; Joel Matlock, fire department, Army; Nathaniel Brown, public works department, Army; Sean Fey, fire department, Coast Guard; Michael Travis Henson, police department, Coast Guard; and Mark Boone, police department, Marine Corps.
This is the first City Council meeting after they've all returned, said Doug Detling, human resources director, after the meeting.

Voted unanimously to authorize the payment of &
36;679.32 to Pacific Asset Capital Inc.for system development charge credits for building sidewalks along Columbus Avenue near Prune Street in front of a residential development.
Voted unanimously to amend the city's land development code changing criteria allowing a planned unit development. The applicant must show that in requesting modifications to the city standard, the proposals are necessary and that they benefit the neighborhood.
Voted unanimously to amend the city's land development code to create a new overlay zone category: Limited Industrial. The Planning Commission and planning staff recommended the change because there was not an appropriate category for properties that have been annexed into the city which still have county zoning.
Medford City Council meetings are held on the first and third Thursdays of the month at noon and 7 p.m. They're televised live on Rogue Valley Community Television Channel 30. Evening meetings are live on Channel 9. Meetings are repeated three times on cable.
