Two Medford men have been arrested on charges of first-degree theft by deception after a police investigation showed they were selling raffle tickets and falsely promising victims that if their number was drawn, they would be given a new motorcycle.

Patrick Leon Johnson, 36, of the 500 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, was lodged in the Jackson County Jail late Friday on the theft charge and a probation violation, Medford police Sgt. Tim Doney said. A second man, Tex Dorsey, 53, of the 300 block of North Oakdale Avenue, was cited for first-degree theft and released.

The owner of E-Z Indian Motorcycle in Medford called police Thursday to report that two men were selling raffle tickets and falsely stating the shop had donated a motorcycle that would later be given to a lucky winner, Doney said. The men said they belonged to an organization known as Victory Challenge. They were additionally selling tickets for a Harley-Davidson motorcycle that had never been donated or purchased, Doney said.

Anyone who purchased raffle tickets for the fake drawing is asked to contact Medford police at 774-2235.
