'Medford Police arrested Lorenzo Rios Jr., 19, of Central Point Saturday after he allegedly knocked another man to the ground, resulting in serious head injuries.

Arturo Orozco-Medina, 25, of White City was listed in critical condition late Sunday at Rogue Valley Medical Center. The incident occurred near 9th and Bartlett streets.

Police said Rios fled the scene, but was later taken into custody at his home in Central Point.

He is being held at the Jackson County Jail on &

36;1 million bail.

Fire calls

Illegal burn

' A large illegal burn at a demolished house at 2285 North Pacific Highway was extinguished Sunday afternoon by Fire District 5 crews.

— The person or persons responsible for the fire were not found.

Fire personnel stayed at the scene for six hours making sure the smoldering pile didn't reignite.

Car Fire '

A 1989 Ford Taurus caught on fire Sunday in the 10000 block of Yank Gulch Road near Talent, according to officials with Fire District 5.

The owner told officials the car suddenly stopped and burst into flames. Despite the extensive damage, the gas tank didn't explode, although one tire blew out, a fire official said.
