Southern Oregon Subaru Volvo Mitsubishi on Biddle Road is celebrating its 25th anniversary this month.

In the spring of 1983, Alan DeBoer bought a lapsed Subaru franchise and brought on Gregg Sorensen as general manager. Two years later, Sorensen became a partner in the business and remains vice president and general manager. Southern Oregon Subaru Volvo Mitsubishi's ownership group now includes David Mills and Duane Wallace.

The dealership moved to 227 E. Ninth St. in 1984, but a decade later it had outgrown that site, having added Volvo in 1987 and Mitsubishi in 1989. In July 1995, Southern Oregon Subaru Volvo Mitsubishi moved to Biddle Road's auto row, trading in its 14,870-square-foot downtown shop for a $2.5 million campus with a 38,000-square-foot building on 6.5 acres.

The company has grown to 52 employees from 35 in 1995. Among them is 20-year veteran Layne Sims, the firm's parts manager.

The dealership sells 1,000 new and used cars annually; Subarus account for about 360 new and 300 used sales.

"There's a lot more of the business done on the Internet now," Sorensen said. "But that's pretty standard in the industry. A lot of people gather product and price information on the Internet before they come in."

As part of the celebration , the dealership is giving away a high-definition flat-screen TV, a $500 gift certificate to Sportsman's Warehouse and a three-day, two-night trip to the Beachfront Inn on the mouth of the Chetco River in Harbor.
