JPR may buy Yreka FM station
Jefferson Public Radio is in the process of upgrading its signal reach in Siskiyou County.
The radio organization with far-flung signals between Lane County and Mendocino, Calif., has signed an option to purchase KSYC-FM in Yreka. JPR, which is based at Southern Oregon University in Ashland, has broadcast in Yreka on KSYC-AM and in Mount Shasta on KMJC-AM for the past eight years.
JPR Executive Director Ron Kramer told the Siskiyou Daily News in Yreka that the organization is waiting on Federal Communications Commission approval to acquire the station from Lee Jamison. Programming now airing on the AM stations will switch to the higher-quality FM signal and JPR hopes to lease the AM outlets to other broadcasters.
