Four local companies make top-100 list

Four Rogue Valley-based firms made Oregon Business Magazine's 2015 "100 Best Companies to Work For in Oregon" list.

Adroit Construction of Ashland was the highest-rated local business at No. 4 among medium-size companies with 35 to 99 Oregon employees. The commercial builder has 86 employees and scored 536.429. No. 1 Lanphere Construction & Development of Beaverton tabulated a 550.263 score.

Adroit broke into the 100 Best Companies list in 2006 at No.42 and jumped to No. 11 in 2008 and hit No. 6 in 2010. After tumbling to No. 29 in 2011, the construction company made in to No. 4 in 2013.

"It really comes from the top here, both owners — Bob Mayers and Steve Lawrence — realize the value of their employees," said Travis Christian, Adroit's business manager. "They expect a great deal from their employees and in return ownership make an enormous commitment back to them. Not simply a financial commitment, we work to provide excellent health benefits, continuing education and training and most importantly a positive place to work. In the end we feel a happy and well-trained employee will produce a better product."

Oregon Business Magazine measures employee opinion on 20 workplace practices to determine its rankings.  Employees respond to questions on work environment, management and communications, decision making and trust, career development, along with benefits and compensation. Employers also answer a questionnaire on benefits.

RHT Energy Solutions of Medford was No. 5 in the small company division (15-34 workers). The conservation and renewable energy services business with 16 employees posted a 545.462 score. Portland law firm Barran Liebman topped the small companies with a 563.568 score.

Medford-based Jackson County Physical Therapy  was No. 16 among the small companies. The organization has 29 employees and produced a 522.413 score, placing it between Ultimate Staff Services of Portland and 2 Towns Ciderhouse of Corvallis.

Among the large companies, where Capital Auto of Salem topped the list with a 554.645 score, Central Point-based Grange Co-Op ranked No. 25 with a 481.991 score. The agriculture, farm and garden supply operation has 214 employees.
