Late arrivals lead to missed flights
When airlines ask passengers to show up two hours prior to flights, it's not so airport vendors can sell more coffee and donuts.
A handful of passengers didn't make their flight out of the Medford airport Tuesday morning, because they didn't clear TSA screening in time.
The busiest hours at the airport are between 4:30 and 6:30 a.m. as planes that overnighted in Medford queue up for departure.
With a half-dozen flights departing between 5 a.m. and 6:47 a.m., as many as 500 passengers have to go through security.
"I did some checking (Tuesday) morning and between two and four people missed flights," Airport Director Bern Case said. "On any given day, somebody misses a flight because they arrived 35 minutes before departure. TSA can move fast, but not so fast they overlook something."
