Gas prices up 37 cents from 2016

Despite a 1.9-cent drop in the past week, the average price for a gallon of gasoline in Medford is up 37.1 cents from mid-December 2016.

Gas Buddy reports the local average hit $2.75 Sunday in a survey of 64 gas outlets. The statewide average was $2.74.

The national average, which has fallen 3.3 cents per gallon in the past week, was $2.41.

While national per-gallon averages dropped 12.9 cents the past month, it fell 8.5 cents in the Medford area. Oregon's state gas tax is 30 cents per gallon. The federal tax is 18.4 cents per gallon.

Yreka casino seeking dealers

YREKA — Rain Rock Casino, expected to open the final weekend of January, is seeking table games dealers.

The Karuk Tribe casino is paying new dealers $11 an hour — $12 for experienced dealers — plus tips and benefits. Qualified applicants must be 21. Cox re-elected to Farm Service Agency

Jackson/Josephine Farm Service Agency County Committee Chairman John Cox of Eagle Point has won re-election for a three-year term.

His region, Local Administrative Area 2, includes the northern portions of Jackson and Josephine counties from the Curry County line at Indigo Creek in the west, to the Klamath County line in the east, and north to the Douglas County line, covering the communities of Wolf Creek, Merlin, Rogue River, Gold Hill, Eagle Point and Butte Falls.
