TheDove expands with 7 California TV stations

Local Christian broadcaster theDove has added seven California television stations, more than doubling its regional network.

The new signals, covering the Sacramento Valley and coastal areas from Santa Rosa to Monterey, combined with stations in Medford, Bend and Portland, boost theDove to 10 over-the-air signals. TheDove programming is also carried on Southern Oregon cable systems, Roku TV internationally and streamed online.

Perry Atkinson, president and general manager of theDove, said the expansion on primary digital channels beams its programming to a much wider audience.

“We are grateful to our loyal viewers and listeners for catching our vision and helping us make the initial investment to make this move possible,” Atkinson said.

The stations are KTVJ (Ch. 12) San Francisco/Oakland; KKPM (Ch. 28) Chico/Sacramento; KFTY (Ch. 45) Santa Rosa; KRDT (Ch. 23) Redding; KKRM (Ch. 11) Chico; KQRO (Ch. 45) Morgan Hill; and KURK (Ch. 3) San Francisco/San Jose.

"The additional stations will help us negotiate with the satellite people because of our expanded footprint," Atkinson said.

For the past eight years, theDove TV has produced programs covering issues of the day, while advancing its Christian mission. The station has received the National Religious Broadcasters’ Low Power Television Station of the Year award four times.

Its signature program is Mornings on theDove, blending news, current issues, political headlines, community events and weather. Atkinson also hosts a daily hourlong interview show touching on topics from counseling and politics to health and spiritual life.

The television station grew out of KDOV radio and operates out of studios at the Medford airport. Through a series of translators, theDove's radio transmission is available through much of southwestern Oregon, Central Oregon and parts of Northern California. The morning news show is simulcast on Radio Medford's KCMX-AM station.
