Changes coming to Highway 62 construction zone
Motorists driving through the ongoing construction area for the Highway 62 expressway will encounter some new twists starting Friday, Feb. 9.
Westbound drivers on Highway 62 will use new traffic lanes between Delta Waters Road and the intersection of Poplar Drive and Bullock Road, according to an Oregon Department of Transportation news release.
"That allows (crews) to start into that next phase where they'll be excavating the new roadway surface to match up with the eastbound lanes," said ODOT spokesman Gary Leaming.
In addition, ramp traffic coming from Biddle Road onto westbound Highway 62 will need to yield to oncoming westbound traffic before merging, a significant change for an intersection that has long had a dedicated lane for cars traveling from Biddle onto the highway.
"After this change, then you will have to yield for that traffic coming westbound because you'll be entering a hot lane of traffic," Leaming said. "It's a complete change from what it is currently. Just be mindful."
The $120 million expressway project, intended to reduce congestion and travel times along the Highway 62 corridor between Medford and White City, is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2018.
