Rogue Creamery wins national sustainability award
Rogue Creamery won the U.S. Dairy Sustainability Award for Outstanding Dairy Processing and Manufacturing.
The award adds to an extensive résumé for the Central Point company, highlighted by its Rogue River Blue Cheese being named the best cheese in the world at the 2019 annual World Cheese Awards.
“It’s certainly a big part of our mission to create the world's best cheese,” said marketing manager Marguerite Merritt. “But the other part is to do so in a manner that will benefit our community and environment, and now we have the other piece of that puzzle.”
The criteria for the award stretched across social, economic and environmental sustainability.
Rogue Creamery exhibited instances of all three through its installation of solar panels, reduced packaging waste, donating over 3,500 pounds of cheese to those impacted by the September 2020 wildfires, and the creation of an employee commuter program.
“It all contributes to our vision for sustainability and our future that we can contribute to as a company and that we can encourage our employees to contribute as an individual,” she said. “It’s about taking the initiative at every step of the way in and in everything we do.”
