CORVALLIS — Andres Reed, a star running back and linebacker at South Medford High prior to graduating in 2003, has walked on to the Oregon State football team and will participate in spring practice.

The 6-foot-1 Reed will play running back and has two years of eligibility. He originally signed on with Portland State, then transferred to College of the Siskiyous in Weed, Calif., where he played in 2004 and '05.

At South, Reed was injured much of his senior season but managed 644 rushing yards and 307 receiving yards. As a junior, he ran for 990 yards, averaging 7.9 yards per carry and scoring 15 touchdowns.

The Beavers' spring practice is from April 2-28.

ASHLAND — Southern Oregon University has added two players to women's soccer recruiting class, bringing the number of newcomers to seven, coach Jon Clement announced.

The players are midfielder/forward Emily Werckmann out of Petaluma, Calif., and forward Justina MacDowell from Bellevue, Wash.

Werckmann was a second-team all-league player for Casa Grande High in 2005. She played on club team that was champion of the 2004 U.S. Club Western Regional and made the semifinals the following year.

She also was a two-time district Olympic Development Team member.

MacDowell played forward for Sammamish High for two seasons and received honorable mention in league all-star voting in 2006.

Earlier Raider signees were Kao Packwood-Chandler and Mo Costello out of Washington and California's Genevieve Speas, Sara Switzer, and Stacy Szeto.
