Albertson takes two from Raiders

CALDWELL, Idaho — Stacy Smith and Haley Butcher had big performances at the plate as Albertson College swept a Cascade Conference softball doubleheader against Southern Oregon University on Friday.

Albertson defeated the Raiders, 9-3 and 11-3 in five innings.

In Game 1, Smith went 3-for-4 with three RBIs to pace the Coyotes' 10-hit attack. Butcher added two hits and one RBI in the opener.

Southern Oregon (9-21, 4-4 Cascade) received a pair of hits each from shortstop Karla Alvarez and catcher Natalie Nielsen.

Albertson jumped on Raider starter Alicia Caudill for five runs in the opening inning.

In the second game, the Coyotes (22-7, 7-1 Cascade) grabbed a 9-2 lead after three innings.

Butcher went 3-for-3 with three RBIs to spark the offense. Smith added two hits and two RBIs and designated hitter Brooke Judy contributed two hits and three RBIs.

Albertson's Katie Zillner struck out seven in five innings to register her 12th win in 15 decisions.

Nielsen connected for a solo home run and Katie Lee had two hits for the Raiders.
