CORVALLIS — Oregon State's Mike Stutes and Eddie Kunz combined to pitch a four-hitter as the ninth-ranked Beavers beat California 1-0 in Pacific-10 baseball Friday night at Goss Stadium.

OSU (27-7 overall, 3-4 Pac-10) scored the game's only run when Mitch Canham led off the sixth inning with a double and scored on Mike Lissman's single.

The Beavers won their third straight game and posted their fourth shutout of the season. Stutes and Kunz outdueled Cal right-hander Tyson Ross and a pair of relievers.

Stutes improved his record to 8-1 this season, going 71/3 innings and allowing three hits and four walks while striking out six. He didn't allow a hit until the fourth inning.

Kunz entered the game with a runner at second and one out in the eighth and got a pair of groundouts to end the inning. In the ninth, he allowed just a two-out bloop single en route to his fifth save of the season.

The Beavers and Bears (17-18, 2-5) continue their series today and Sunday.

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — After a 31/2-week layoff, Southern Oregon came out sharp against Dominican University in women's tennis Friday.

The Raiders blanked Dominican 9-0 and improved their season record to 8-2.

"I was concerned that we hadn't had a match for several weeks," Southern Oregon coach Gail Patton said. "Getting on a court and practicing is different than match play."

Freshman Charlotte Duren was the only Raider player extended to three sets. Duren dropped the first set 6-7, but came back to even the match with a 6-3 second-set victory and prevailed 10-5 in the tiebreaker.

"We got focused right away," said Patton. "We didn't show any rustiness."
