Raiders run streak to 18
EUGENE — The 11th-ranked Southern Oregon University volleyball team won its 18th consecutive match, romping past Northwest Christian College, 30-16, 30-25, 30-23 on Friday to retain sole possession of first in the Cascade Collegiate Conference.
The Raiders (20-4, 14-1 CCC), who have dropped just three games during their win streak, burst out to a 14-6 lead in the first game and finished with 18 kills. Conference-leading setter Lindsey Stone also recorded 12 of her 40 assists in the opener.
Southern Oregon's toughest test was in the second game, when the Beacons bolted to a 3-0 lead and led by as many as six points. But the Raiders slowly crept back and took over after scoring six straight points to go up 18-15.
In Game 3, the Raiders would break six ties with the Beacons before using a five-point run to take a 20-17 lead and pull away for the win.
Mia Wortel had 15 kills, a pair of blocks and a .345 hitting percentage for SOU.
