Oregon women win
PORTLAND — Freshman center Ellyce Ironmonger had 17 points and 12 rebounds to lead Oregon to a 65-56 victory over UC Santa Barbara Saturday at the annual Pape Jam Rose at the Rose Garden.
Freshman Ellie Manou added 14 points and Kaela Chapdelaine had 11 for the Ducks (5-3), who overcame a slow start to shoot 55.6 percent in the second half.
Chisa Ononiwu scored 16 points to lead the Gauchos (3-5. Santa Barbara took a 35-30 lead early in the second half before Oregon answered with a 14-1 run, highlighted by an Ironmonger three-point play and a Taylor Lilley 3-pointer.
Lilley's layup gave Oregon its biggest lead at 55-42 with 5:35 left. Sha'Rae Gibbons' 3-pointer brought Santa Barbara to 56-50 with 4:31 left, but Lilley assisted Manou for a layup with 1:27 left to push the Oregon lead to 62-53.
Oregon missed 13 of its first 15 shots, and Santa Barbara built a 14-8 lead. But the Ducks made six of their next 10 and led 20-19 at halftime.
