Oregon women get past Arizona

EUGENE — Tamika Nurse came off the bench to score 12 points Saturday as Oregon beat depleted Arizona 59-53.

Taylor Lilley added 10 points for the Ducks.

Ashley Whisonant had 17 points for the Wildcats, who dressed just seven players two days after having only six available in their double-overtime loss Oregon State. Amina Njonkou added 11 points and 10 rebounds for Arizona (6-9), which has lost five straight games.

The Wildcats admittedly came into Saturday's game with tired legs and the Ducks took advantage early.

Ellyce Ironmonger scored six of her seven points in the first six minutes and Micaela Cocks hit a pair of 3-pointers as Oregon jumped to a 24-11 lead. Oregon took a 36-20 lead into the second half and quickly went ahead 38-20 on jumper by Victoria Kenyon.

At Corvallis, Dymond Simon scored 14 of her 20 points in the second half to help Arizona State rally from a 10-point halftime deficit.

Lauren Lacey added 13 points and Reagan Pariseau 12 for Arizona State (10-5, 4-0 Pacific-10 Conference). Ashley Allen, the Pac-10's leading scorer, had 22 points and six rebounds for Oregon State (8-6, 1-2).

The Beavers led 44-30 early in the second half, but Simon hit two 3-pointers during an 8-0 run that got the Sun Devils back in the game.

The Sun Devils soon hit the Beavers with another 8-0 run. Sybil Dosty's rebound and basket capped the stretch with a rebound and basket, giving Arizona State a 52-50 lead.

Oregon State did not make a field goal in the last 4:41, but stayed within striking distance until Simon's 3-pointer from the top of the key gave the Sun Devils a 66-60 lead.
