Fiegi earns NAIA national player of week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Oregon Tech senior Ryan Fiegi has been named NAIA Division II men's national basketball player of the week, almost two years to the date since an OIT player last won the award.

Fiegi, a former South Medford High standout, is also the first Cascade Collegiate Conference player to win the national award since his brother, Eric, won the honor in 2006.

The last OIT player to earn the award was Andre Lawrence, who put up a 42-point, eight-rebound effort in a 102-99 win at Warner Pacific, including a game-winning shot from about 45 feet away.

Fiegi scored 41 points, and grabbed 11 rebounds, in OIT's 81-79 come-from-behind victory at Concordia on Saturday. He had four straight 3-point goals to fuel the Owls' second-half rally.

The 6-foot-7 point guard scored 55 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and had five assists for the weekend.

He followed that with a 25-point, six-rebound, five-assist effort in Oregon Tech's 89-76 win at Southern Oregon last Tuesday.

Fiegi is now third on OIT's career scoring list with 1,528 points. He started the season 15th on the all-time points list.

When Eric Fiegi won the award, he scored 78 points and grabbed 30 rebounds to help Corban beat Cascade College and Warner Pacific.
