SOU men claw past Cascade

PORTLAND — Ryon Pool shot 9 of 9 from the free-throw line and scored 21 points, joining four other Southern Oregon University scorers in double figures, as the Raiders used a strong second half to defeat Cascade 81-73 on the road on Friday in a men's basketball game.

SOU's Josh McDermott scored 14 points and had a team-high seven rebounds, Scott Tiefenthaler scored 11 and Trenton Fraser added 10. The Raiders (8-17, 4-11 CCC) erased a three-point halftime deficit by outscoring Cascade (5-18, 0-15 CCC) 44-33 in the second half.

Eli Thornton scored eight and dished out five assists for SOU.

Cascade was led by Erving Adams' 22 points on 7-of-12 shooting.

SOUTHERN OREGON 84, CASCADE 60 — At Portland, Chelsey Muri and Ashley Baker scored 15 points apiece as Southern Oregon outscored Cascade 49-30 in the second half to pull away for the Cascade Collegiate Conference win.

Baker also had 15 rebounds, while Whitney Scott added 12 points and Rhiannon Dickison added 11.

The Raiders (22-3, 13-2 CCC) made 16 of 27 from the free-throw line, while Cascade made only 11 trips, making six.

Wrestling

SOUTHERN OREGON 34, PACIFIC 9 — At Forest Grove, Southern Oregon picked up a dual-meet win over Pacific on Thursday.

SOU's Barry Johnson (141 pounds), Jimmy Ulrey (165) and Michael Leslie (184) recorded pins for the Raiders, who won seven straight weight classes and eight of 10 after forfeiting the opening weight at 125. Trevor Lofstedt, the No. 8 ranked NAIA wrestler at 133 pounds, quickly put the Raiders in front by defeating Pacific's Andrew Wolfe. Lofstedt earned his first takedown midway through the first period then took Wolfe down from the neutral position in the second round.
