Beavers fall in battle of nationally ranked teams

SAN DIEGO — Three players had two hits for Oregon State, but it wasn't enough as 12th-ranked Beaves fell to San Diego 10-5 on Saturday in the second game of the four-day San Diego State Tournament.

The Beavers (4-5) tied the game 2-all with RBI doubles from Jason Ogata and Drew George in the third and fourth innings. OSU then came back from a 5-2 deficit to tie the game with a three-run sixth on RBI singles by Erik Ammon and Joey Wong, and a sacrifice fly from Chris Hopkins.

The 11th-ranked Toreros answered with four runs in the bottom of the seventh to take control of the game with the big hit coming on a two-run double by James Meador.

The Beavers were once again hindered by their inability in the field, committing three costly errors.

Four of USD's 10 runs were unearned. Starting OSU pitcher Jorge Reyes went 52/3 innings, allowing six hits, five runs — two earned — with a strikeout. The loss went to reliever Blake Keitzman (0-1). Beaver pitchers also hit three batters.
