Bittle helps OIT sweep Raiders
KLAMATH FALLS — Southern Oregon suffered its first two losses in Cascade Conference softball Tuesday when it was swept by Oregon Tech in a doubleheader, 7-3 and 8-6.
The Owls used a three-run sixth inning in Game 1 and, in Game 2, Bess Fagan's walk-off home run to come out victorious.
The Raiders dropped to 4-12 overall and 2-2 in league. OIT is 14-8 and 4-0.
Former Crater pitcher Jenni Bittle won both ends of the twin bill to improve to 8-4. She started the first game and went the distance, allowing eight hits in seven innings, striking out one and hitting a batter. All three SOU runs were earned.
Bittle belted a three-run home run in the sixth inning to put the Owls up 7-2.
The Raiders got two hits and two runs from Justine Cooper.
In the second game, SOU was aided by two errors and scored three runs in the seventh for a 6-5 lead.
Bittle came on in relief and got a double-play grounder to end the threat. She gained the win when Fagan, following a single and a double, ripped her homer.
Alicia Caudill and Danielle Stratton each had two hits for SOU, and Savannah Sanitos hit a two-run home run in the second inning.
Caudill (2-6) went the route in Game 1 for SOU, and Joelle Riekeman (2-6) did likewise in Game 2.
