Speer lifts SOU to victory
KIRKLAND, Wash. — A big night by Southern Oregon junior Jacki Speer helped lead the 20th-ranked SOU women to a 72-64 victory over Northwest University Saturday night.
Speer finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds, eight of which came on the offensive end. The 20 points came despite Speer only going 6-for-16 from the free throw line.
Whitney Scott added 15 points and Ashley Baker went for 11 points for the Raiders (9-1, 2-1 CCC).
Rachel Mitchell finished with 22 points for the Eagles (4-9, 2-2).
The Raiders led 39-33 at halftime and the Eagle came back and cut the lead to one in the second half before Speer hit on back-to-back buckets to give the Raiders some breathing room.
SOU held Northwest to 36 percent shooting for the game.
NORTHWEST UNIVERSITY 94, SOUTHERN OREGON 65 — At Kirkland, Wash., Northwest University turned a three-point halftime lead into a rout over Southern Oregon to improved to 9-4 overall and 3-1 in Cascade Conference play. SOU fell to 3-8 overall and 1-2 in conference action.
Greg George led Northwest with 21 points and 12 rebounds.
Josh McDermott came off the bench to lead SOU with 14 points. Jarrad Childs had 11 points for the Raiders.
Childs had all his points in the first half as the Raiders shot almost 50 percent (48.5) and trailed just 41-38 at halftime.
The second half was all Northwest.
The Eagles shot 61 percent and held the Raiders to 30 percent shooting to turn the game into a blowout.
