SOU men trip up Concordia
ASHLAND — The Southern Oregon University men's basketball team used four double-digit scorers to separate from Concordia for an 81-73 victory Friday night at McNeal Pavilion.
Junior Jarrad Childs led all SOU scorers with 19 points to go along with five steals and five rebounds. Senior Eli Thornton finished with 14 points, while Scott Tiefenthaler had 12 points and Humphrey Jackson added 10 points and six assists.
Steven Vaughan led the Cavs with 16 points, while Alex Tiefenthaler went for 13 points and 14 rebounds.
A Childs layup helped the Raiders (4-9, 2-2 CC) jump out to a 10-4 lead with 16:50 to play in the first half and the Raiders pushed it to 14 at 41-27 on a Childs jumper before leading 43-32 at the half.
The Raiders pushed the lead to 15 early in the second half and then had to hold on as the Cavs (5-8, 0-4) came flying back.
Concordia cut the lead to three points at four different times in the second half, including at 76-73 with 1:43 to play.
But Scott Tiefenthaler had the answer for the Raiders, nailing a baseline 3-pointer to push the lead back to six at 79-73 with just over a minute to play and Childs iced it with a layup at the nine-second mark.
The Raiders were able to score the victory, despite making just 6 of 20 free throws (30 percent).
SOU continues its homestand today when it plays host to Corban.
