Speer leads Raiders over Mountaineers
LA GRANDE — Southern Oregon's Jacki Speer poured in 21 points to lead the Raiders to a 72-69 victory over Eastern Oregon in Cascade Conference women's basketball Saturday.
Speer finished with 21 points and nine rebounds, snapping her streak of four straight double-doubles. Rhiannon Dickison added 19 points for the Raiders (19-4, 11-3 CC), while Ashley Baker finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Whitney Scott added 11 points and seven assists.
Tana Stickney led Eastern Oregon (14-7, 9-5) with 18 points on 8 of 13 shooting.
Eastern Oregon jumped out to a 36-28 lead after shooting 50 percent in the first half, but the second half was all SOU.
The Raiders shot 64 percent on 16-for-25 shooting in the second half to secure the three-point victory.
Southern Oregon returns home next week when it plays host to Cascade College Friday night at McNeal Pavilion.
EASTERN OREGON 84, SOUTHERN OREGON 49 — At La Grande, No. 18 Eastern Oregon jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as the Mountaineers sent Southern Oregon to its third straight Cascade Conference defeat.
Neil Fryer led Eastern Oregon (17-5, 10-4 CC) with 14 points.
Josh McDermott hit on 6 of 12 shots to lead the Raiders (7-16, 5-9) with 15 points. Eli Thornton added 10 points and six rebounds.
Eastern Oregon jumped out to a 49-26 halftime lead and pushed the lead to 30 early in the second half as the Mountaineers shot 49 percent for the game.
The Raiders shot 31 percent from the field and 18 percent from 3-point range.
