Raiders set records in season-ending sweep
ASHLAND — Three Southern Oregon softball players set season records Saturday as the Raiders swept Eastern Oregon, 10-5 and 4-1, at University Field.
The Raiders finished the season in second place in the Cascade Conference with an 18-6 record. They were 22-15 overall. SOU was picked to place fifth in a preseason vote of coaches.
Sophomore Meghan Laughlin, senior Strohm Fouty and freshman Jordyn Kurtz set season marks.
Laughlin had two hits and set the single-season batting average record at .463.
Fouty was on base four times and set the school record for on-base percentage at .519.
Kurtz got complete-game victories in both games to set the record for complete games at 30.
A big fourth inning in the opener helped the Raiders jump out to a 6-0 lead, and the Raiders added four in the sixth, highlighted by a two-run triple by senior Joelle Riekeman.
Kurtz struck out three to pick up her 20th win.
In the second game, Kurtz limited the Mountaineers to two hits and tied the school record with a pair of homers.
Fouty finished the doubleheader with four stolen bases to up her school record to 43.
