Lewis solid in series setback
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — Former Phoenix pitcher Jordan Lewis started and allowed one earned run in 41/3 innings but his Western Nevada College baseball team lost in the first round of the Junior College World Series, 4-3 in 11 innings, to top-ranked Howard College of Texas on Saturday.
Lewis gave up three runs, three hits, walked three and struck out five against Howard, which improved to 59-1.
Western Nevada (46-13) rebounded Sunday with an 11-0 win over Iowa Western and plays again today.
Against Howard, Western Nevada left the bases loaded in the first, fifth and ninth.
That left room for Runey Davis' walk-off home run in the 11th inning.
Western Nevada outhit Howard 14-5.
