OIT scores two late goals to top SOU
Oregon Tech rallied from behind with a pair of goals within three minutes of each other to take a 2-1 nonconference victory against Southern Oregon on Sunday at University Field.
After a scoreless first half, SOU (0-2) got on the board at the 60th minute with a goal from the top of the penalty box by sophomore Denise Powell. The Hidden Valley High School product broke open at the top of box and received a perfect pass from freshman Stephanie Carr to get the scoring started.
The Owls, who had 19 shots and 14 shots on goal, continued to fire away and finally broke through at the 70th minute as Brooke Cole connected from 22 yards out to tie the match at 1-1.
Oregon Tech (1-0) wasted little time finding the net again as Kaila Dillon took a pass from Cole and buried a left-foot kick into the next from 10 yards away for the game-winner in the 73rd minute.
Carr and Powell both had shots on goal in the last 10 minutes of the match, but Oregon Tech keeper Megan Ross made saves on both shots.
Carr and Powell each finished the match with three shots on goal, and sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Kuehlwein had 11 saves.
