Raider trio earn accolades
Southern Oregon's Vance Beach and Damilyn Tanner have been named all-independent football players of the week, while volleyball player Leah Bergstrom was honored by the Cascade Conference.
Beach, a junior wide receiver, took the offensive honors after catching eight balls for a career-best 145 yards and also scored on a 75-yard pass play as the Raiders fell to NCAA Division I Portland State, 34-10.
Tanner, a senior defensive back, tied for the team lead with five tackles and also had an interception.
The Raiders (1-1) received votes in the this week's NAIA Top 25 poll for the second time in four years and return home Saturday to face Willamette at 3 p.m.
Bergstrom, the Raiders' junior right-side hitter, was named the conference's hitter of the week.
Bergstrom came away with 34 kills last weekend and only committed 10 errors. She also had a hand in seven blocks as the No. 21 Raiders knocked off Eastern Oregon and fell to 11th-ranked College of Idaho.
SOU (9-2, 3-1 CC) hosts Northwest University Friday night and Evergreen State Saturday.
