Southern Oregon athletes honored for recent performances
ASHLAND — Three Southern Oregon University athletes have been recognized for outstanding performances last week.
Football running back Brandon Baldwin, volleyball libero Corynn Jorgensen and cross country runner David Laney were named players of the week.
Baldwin was independent offensive player after rushing for 171 yards in Saturday's 22-15 setback to NCAA Division III Willamette. Baldwin rushed 33 times for an average of 5.2 yards per carry and also scored a touchdown. He also caught a pass for 35 yards.
Baldwin ranks fourth in the NAIA with 131 yards rushing per game.
Senior Jorgensen was singled out by the Cascade Conference as the top libero. A fill-in for injured Becky Johnstone, she led wins over Northwest and Evergreen State with a career-high 28 digs against Northwest and then eight digs against Evergreen.
Laney helped the ninth-ranked Southern Oregon men claim the team title at the NCAA Division II Humboldt State Invitational.
He won the 8,000-meter race in 25:25.
