OSU to play baseball at Harry & David
The Oregon State University baseball team will play an intra-squad game at Harry & David Field at noon Saturday, Oct. 17. The game is sponsored by the Medford Youth Baseball Society, a non-profit organization which operates the field.
Admission is $5 for adults and free for kids 12 and under, with proceeds benefiting the MYBS. Tickets will be available at the gate.
The Beavers, national champions in 2006 and '07, feature a pair of local players in senior Rob Folsom, catcher and outfielder from North Medford High, and sophomore Sam Gaviglio, a right-handed pitcher from Ashland High. Former South Medford High player Logan Boyd is an undergraduate assistant coach.
Gaviglio was named to Baseball America's Freshman All-America second team last year, as well as earning All-Pac-10 honorable mention. He set an OSU freshman record by going 10-1 with a 2.73 earned run average.
"We look forward to heading down to Medford and playing a scrimmage for our fans in Southern Oregon," said OSU head coach Pat Casey. "I want to thank the Medford Youth Baseball Society for giving us the chance to come down and play and get a good workout in during the fall. It will be a fun weekend with fellow Beavers and baseball fans in Medford."
"OSU baseball is a premium collegiate program with excellent coaching and players, and we're very honored to host them right here on our home field," said Gary Miller, president of the Medford Youth Baseball Society. "This is a nice opportunity for local players and fans to see a first-class collegiate baseball program in action and up close."
Prior to the start of the Oct. 17 game, OSU players will be available to sign autographs. The game will be broadcast live by Jay Reese on KMED 1440-AM.
Harry & David Field is located at 2929 S. Pacific Hwy. in Medford.
