Raider men roll to victory over Bearcats
ASHLAND — The Southern Oregon University men's basketball team shot 63 percent in the second half en route to a 95-81 victory over Willamette in the final game of the Flagship Inn Invitational on Saturday at McNeal Pavilion.
Oregon Tech knocked off William Jessup 72-51 in the first game Saturday.
Both SOU and OIT went 2-0 in the Invitational.
Southern Oregon (7-1) was led by Humphrey Jackson's 19 points and Chris Mackovjak's 18 off the bench.
The Raiders led 42-35 at the half after holding the Bearcats to 29 percent shooting from the field.
In the second half, SOU's offense took over — mostly with layups.
Mackovjak gave the Raiders a 69-57 lead with a layup at the 9:48 mark.
Justonn Smith added a 3-pointer and a layup to push it to 77-62 with 7:44 to play and the Raiders never looked back.
Joe White pushed the advantage to 23 at 87-64 with a 3-pointer with 5:14 to play for SOU's biggest lead.
Smith added 13 points for SOU, while Roland Johnson had 12 points, nine rebounds and four blocks and Ryan Staker had 11 points and six rebounds.
SOU opens up Cascade Conference play next Friday against Concordia.
