Quick start leads Raiders to easy win
KLAMATH FALLS — The 11th-ranked Southern Oregon women's basketball team jumped out to a 20-6 lead and cruised to a 76-46 rout of Bethany on Saturday — Day 2 of the Oregon Tech Classic.
Jacki Speer led the Raiders (11-1) with 18 points and 13 rebounds despite playing in just over half of the game. Speer needs 18 points to move past Nada Janackovic (1,515) for second on SOU's career scoring list.
Freshman Julia Nix came off the bench to score 12 points for the Raiders. Emily Brookins added nine, Carly Wood had eight and Lindsey Scheffler scored seven.
After the early lead, the Raiders cruised through the rest of the first half. SOU was up 50-28 at the half after shooting 53 percent from the field and 73 percent from the free-throw line.
The Raiders opened the second half with a 14-2 lead, punctuated by a 3-pointer by freshman Molly Doran off an assist by Sierra Stayberg.
Bethany dropped to 2-9.
