Ducks win opener over Santa Clara
EUGENE — The No. 10 seed Oregon volleyball team swept through its NCAA tournament first-round match against Santa Clara Thursday, winning 25-15, 25-17, 25-16 at Matthew Knight Arena.
The Ducks were dominant both offensively and defensively, finishing with a .367 hitting percentage while holding Santa Clara to .057, thanks to 15 blocks. Serena Warner was at the center of that defense with 11 block assists and two solos, while Martenne Bettendorf tallied a career high 10 blocks.
Bettendorf had it going on both ends, leading the team with 12 kills and only one error for a clip of .478. She is the first Duck to get a double-double with blocks and kills since Ariana Williams against Utah on Nov. 22, 2013.
Oregon next faces LSU at 4 p.m. today at Matt Knight. LSU defeated Oklahoma in an earlier match, 3-0.
