Bend rallies for win over Rogues

BEND — The Medford Rogues could not hang on to an early lead and fell, 6-5, to the Bend Elks during West Coast League baseball action on Friday.

Medford (11-11) owned a 5-1 advantage entering the bottom of the second inning. Dan Mayer’s RBI single and Tony Roque’s two-run single in the top of the first put the Rogues ahead, 3-0.

After two more Medford runs in the second, the Elks scored five unanswered, capped by Cooper Hummel’s two-out, two-run single in the sixth.

Roque finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Medford continues the three-game series at 6:35 tonight.

MUSTANGS SPLIT: At Reno, Nev., Medford beat the host Reno Knights, 16-4 in five innings, before falling, 9-6, to the Washington Rush in the Fourth of July Tournament at Reno High.

Against Reno, Tate Cowden was 3-for-3 with a solo home run and three runs scored, Steen Fredrickson 2-for-3 with three RBIs, Jordan Ragan 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Bryce Rogan 2-for-3 with an RBI. Micah Brown added a two-run single in the fifth inning.

In the loss to the Rush, Rogan went 3-for-4, Cowden 2-for-4 with a two-run double and Cole Carder 2-for-3.

The Mustangs (19-8) play Yuba City and Oaks Baseball Club today.

AMERICAN LEGION A

NORTH MEDFORD 17-16, SOUTH MEDFORD 5-6: North Medford racked up 30 hits on the day in the sweep at South Medford High.

In the opener for the Mavericks (22-5), Justin Geyer was 3-for-3 with five RBIs and four runs scored, Honus Kindreich 4-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs and Berry Hunt 3-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs. Kasey Buchanan went 3-for-5 with two runs, Tyler Oedekoven 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs and Dakota Adams 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Jack Thompson finished 2-for-3 with four RBIs and Ryan Carle 2-for-3 with two runs for South.

In Game 2 for the Mavericks, Geyer was 5-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs, Adams 3-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs and Larson Kindreich 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs. Honus Kindreich went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs and Wyatt Baptiste 2-for-4.

Christian Mahoney and Ethan Whitney both finished 3-for-4, Carle 2-for-3 with two runs and Thompson 2-for-4 for the Colts.
