Raiders remain unbeaten, sweep Northwest

KIRKLAND, Wash. — The ninth-ranked Southern Oregon volleyball team turned a matchup of Cascade Conference unbeatens into one of its most dominant performances of the season Saturday at Northwest University.

The Raiders improved to 11-0 overall and 4-0 in the CCC with a 25-19, 25-18, 25-11 sweep of the Eagles (7-3, 3-1) at NU Pavillion.

It included a .340 Raiders attacking average, their most efficient since 2013, led by 11 kills and 10 digs from Tyana Andrews and 10 kills and five blocks from Emma Gasman.

SOU, still attempting to match its longest win streak to start a season since 1991 (17 straight), has defeated Northwest in 24 straight meetings.

The Raiders (who also had a 17-match streak in the middle of 2012) return home next Friday and Saturday to face Multnomah and Warner Pacific.

Their undressing of the Eagles included a 10-2 advantage in service aces (Corynn Kopra led with three) and an 8-3 edge in blocks (Niki Small had four and Andrews three) and several strong hitting performances, guided by Lauren McGowne's 37 assists.

Gasman hit .467 (15 attacks), Andrews hit .409 (22) and Small contributed nine kills on just 17 tries. Kopra also had eight kills.

SOU has attacked at a clip of .240 or better in nine of 11 matches. The Raiders did it in eight of 31 in 2014.

Northwest had only been swept once in its previous 16 matches.
