No. 5 MSU-Northern controls No. 14 Raiders

HAVRE, Mont. — Fifth-ranked Montana State-Northern had its way with Southern Oregon on Thursday night, as three of the seven nationally-ranked wrestlers in the Lights' lineup came through with bonus points in a 31-11 dual victory.

MSU-Northern (2-1) claimed seven of 10 classes overall. The 14th-ranked Raiders (2-1) trailed 14-0 through the first three before second-ranked 149-pounder Tyler Cowger stuck a 7-4 decision on No. 16 Brandon Weber.

SOU's other wins came from 157-pounder Kyle Sether, who upset 10th-ranked Tommy Cooper in a 3-2 bout; and No. 4 Ryan McWaters, whose 18-3 technical fall against Dace Fisher at 184 pounds was sandwiched by four Lights wins. One of those was a near upset for SOU's Tanner Fischer (197) against No. 1 Garrett DeMers, but DeMers took an 8-6 sudden victory.

SOU is now 8-6 in duals all-time against MSU-Northern, which is also in the West Region, but the Lights have won the last two meetings in Havre handily.

The Raiders will be tested again at 6 tonight at No. 8 Great Falls (Mont.).
