Boucher, Cook boost No. 25 Ducks

EUGENE — Chris Boucher scored 17 points, Elgin Cook had 12 points and eight rebounds, and No. 25 Oregon beat Savannah State 75-59 on Friday night.

Dillon Brooks added 11 points for the Ducks (3-0), who led by as many as 22 after the pesky Tigers pulled within 10 midway through the second half.

Troyce Manassa led Savannah State (3-1) with 15 points, and Chris Martin and Lenjo Kilo each had 11.

Boucher, who transferred to Oregon after being named junior college player of the year last season, was a force. The 6-foot-10 senior was 7 for 10 from the field and also blocked two shots and grabbed seven rebounds.

Cook helped Oregon to a 37-31 rebounding edge, but the Ducks went 11 for 24 from the free-throw line, keeping them from a larger margin of victory.

Oregon stretched an early nine-point lead to 36-17 during an eight-minute span in the first half during which it hit 8 of 9 shots from the floor, including two 3-pointers by Dwayne Benjamin.

When Tyler Dorsey's jumper beat the buzzer, Oregon had a 42-24 halftime lead and all nine Ducks who had played had scored, led by Dillon Brooks with nine points.

NO. 2 KENTUCKY 78, WRIGHT STATE 63: At Lexington, Ky., Tyler Ulis scored a career-high 21 points for Kentucky (4-0), which followed its impressive victory Tuesday over No. 5 Duke by shooting 53 percent from the field.

NO. 3 MARYLAND 65, RIDER 58: At College Park, Md., freshman Diamond Stone fueled a second-half surge that brought Maryland back from a 14-point deficit, and Jake Layman had 11 points and 11 rebounds.

NO. 5 DUKE 79, VCU 71: At New York, Grayson Allen scored a career-high 30 points, and Duke beat VCU in the opening round of the 2K Classic at Madison Square Garden.

NO. 6 VIRGINIA 87, LONG BEACH STATE 52: At Charleston, S.C., Marial Shayok had a career-high 17 points, London Perrantes added 15 and Virginia reached the Charleston Classic final.

NO. 8 OKLAHOMA 85, MCNEESE STATE 56: At Norman, Okla., Buddy Hield scored 24 points and Oklahoma shook off a sluggish start to rout McNeese State in its home opener.

NO. 11 VILLANOVA 86, EAST TENNESSEE STATE 51: At Villanova, Pa., Daniel Ochefu posted his third straight double-double with 12 points and 16 rebounds and Villanova won in a preliminary round of the NIT Season Tip-off.

NO. 13 MICHIGAN STATE 92, ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF 46: At East Lansing, Mich., sophomore Javon Bess scored a career-high 16 points Denzel Valentine had 11 assists for the Michigan State (3-0).

NO. 15 CALIFORNIA 70, EAST CAROLINA 62: At Berkeley, Calif., Ivan Rabb had 14 points and 13 rebounds, Jaylen Brown added 16 points and 10 rebounds and California won in the Las Vegas Invitational.
