Schireman, other Raiders honored

ASHLAND — Southern Oregon University runner Ray Schireman, wide receiver Zack Davis and the Raider men's soccer team received weekly Cascade Collegiate and Frontier Conference honors Monday.

Schireman, a North Medford product and the CCC's reigning cross-country champion, was voted men's runner of the week after helping the Raiders to a team title Friday at Western Oregon's Ash Creek Invitational. The junior placed second overall in a field of 108, completing a 6,300-meter course in 19 minutes, 6.8 seconds in his season debut. He was the first of four Raiders who finished in the top six.

Davis, a senior from Roseville, Calif., logged the longest touchdown reception in recorded SOU history — a 93-yarder from quarterback Tanner Trosin — in the Raiders' 52-35 loss Saturday at UC Davis. That was in the fourth quarter, after he caught a 67-yard TD pass in the first. His total of four receptions for 176 yards also gave him the longest yards-per-catch average (44) in SOU single-game history. He was voted the Frontier's offensive player of the week.

The Raider men's soccer team finished off its nonleague schedule on a high note, shutting out George Fox (2-0) on Wednesday and Linfield (4-0) on Saturday at Raider Stadium for CCC team-of-the-week kudos. SOU will enter CCC play this week, Friday at Walla Walla and Saturday at Multnomah, with a record of 2-1.
