Lowrie, DeLaCruz leads Rogues past Bears
Returning players Connor Lowrie and Johnny DeLaCruz led the charge as the Medford Rogues completed a series sweep against Yuba City by topping the Bears 16-5 on Thursday night at Harry & David Field.
Lowrie and DeLaCruz went a combined 6-for-10 at the plate with seven RBIs and four runs as the Rogues improved to 3-0 in Great West League play and dropped the Bears to 0-3.
Lowrie had a three-run triple in the fourth inning which ultimately put the Rogues on top for good.
DeLaCruz led an eighth-inning offensive explosion by hitting a one-out single. Jake Hellweg followed up with a walk, and Jayden Hanna brought them in with a double. Lowrie had another two-run single in his final at-bat to help cap a six-run inning.
“He (Lowrie) was pretty upset with his day, actually, until he got that last hit," said Rogues manager Josh Hogan. “That's just him. He sets high standards and he expects a lot out of himself.”
Chris Painter threw six innings to earn his first win of the season. Painter surrendered seven walks, allowing four earned runs early, but settled in for his final three innings.
DeLaCruz was 4-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs. Lowrie was 2-for-6 and drove in five. Hanna was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs.
Hellweg, Dante Gutierrez, Jake Gozzo, Taylor Frost and Scotty Wright all had one hit apiece for the Rogues.
The Rogues host Chico at 6:35 p.m. Friday to start a three-game series.
