Lincoln uses big inning to top Rogues

The Lincoln Potters scored five runs in the fifth inning and won the first game of a three-game series, 8-2, over the Medford Rogues Friday in Great West League baseball at Harry & David Field.

The Rogues, who earlier had climbed to No. 14 in the collegiatesummerbaseball.com rankings, dropped to 25-10. Lincoln is 22-12. The second game of the series is tonight at 6:35.

Zachary Hall had a two-run double and Isaiah Garcia a two-run single in the Potters' fifth inning. Lincoln used two walks and a single off Rogues starter Brent Walker to get the inning going.

Hall also hit a solo home run.

Medford's runs came in the sixth and eighth innings.

In the sixth, Clay Valenzuela-Reece led off with a double and scored on Jake Hellweg's single.

In the eighth, they were at it again. Valenzuela-Reece started the inning with a single and Hellweg brought him in with a base hit.

Valenzuela-Reece extended his hitting streak to 12 games. He was 3-for-5. Hellweg was 3-for-4.

Also for the Rogues, Dante Gutierrez made a two fine defensive plays at first base.

American Legion A

CENTRAL POINT SWEEPS: At Klamath Falls, Central Point defeated Klamath Falls 14-1 in six innings and 19-7 in seven to win both ends of an American Legion Area 4 twin bill.

In the first game, Larson Kindreich struck out 15 batters while allowing three hits and no walks.

At the plate, he was 3-for-5 with a triple, while Trae Frodge and Ike Gilliland were each 2-for-3.

In Game 2, Kindreich was 4-for-5 with three doubles. Frodge was 3-for-5 with a double.

The Comets are 12-8 overall and 10-4 in league.


THREE BAG WINS: At White City, Trevor Grimes won the 20-lap box stock main event at the Southern Oregon Speedway Outlaw Kart track.

The two time reigning champion won the race ahead of Keaton Augustine and Vinny DeBenedetti. The race had a red flag when Yreka champion Taylor Fuller flipped his kart in Turn 4. Fuller was okay, but out of the event. Grimes also won the 250 Kart feature.

Jacob James won his second straight beginners box stock main event ahead of reigning champion Kiley Grimes and Isiah Sanders. Wyatt Pinckney grabbed the victory in the 500 open kart main event.
