Rogues remain red-hot in win
Medford’s torrid pace on offense continued Friday night as the Rogues plated seven runs in the first inning to easily push past Yuba City, 10-4, in Great West League action at Harry & David Field.
One night earlier, the GWL-leading Rogues (32-14) tallied 19 runs on 20 hits against the visiting Bears (10-37).
Two-run doubles by Eric Yang and Johnny DeLaCruz highlighted a first-inning surge on Friday that saw Medford send 12 batters to the plate and tally five of their 12 hits.
Staked with an early advantage, Cole Percival steadily sat down Yuba City by striking out seven in six innings of work with three hits and one walk allowed. The Bears scored all four of their runs in the eighth inning, highlighted by a two-run double from Michael Lagier.
For Medford, Clay Valenzuela-Reece finished 2-for-4 with two runs, DeLaCruz 2-for-3 with one run and two RBIs, Dante Gutierrez 2-for-5 with one run and two RBIs and Braden Stutzman went 2-for-4.
The final game of the three-game series is at 6:35 tonight and will part of a “Paint the Park Pink” event where Rogues players will be wearing special pink jerseys for breast cancer awareness. Fans can bid on the jerseys in an auction during the game that will benefit research and support programs for the Leila J. Eisenstein Breast Center.
