Daniel, SOU softball team earn conference honors
Southern Oregon All-American sprinter Arianna Daniel was selected the Cascade Conference track athlete of the week and the Southern Oregon softball team received the CCC’s team of the week, the league office announced Monday.
On Saturday at Lane Community College’s Titan Twilight, Daniel won the 200-meter race in 25.31 seconds and the 400 in 57.28 while also helping SOU’s 4x100 relay team improve its NAIA ‘A’ standard time to 47.73 in another victory.
Daniel tops the CCC’s 200 performance list with an NAIA ‘B’ standard time of 24.91 and its 400 list with an ‘A’ time of 56.65, and she currently ranks second in the 100 (12.21). The junior is the defending Cascade Conference champion in all three events.
The fourth-ranked Raider softball team was recognized after clinching the CCC regular-season title for the second year in a row and the third time in four years with a weekend sweep of Providence (Mont.).
At 40-5 overall, they’ve reached 40 wins faster than any team in program history, and at 23-1 in the CCC, they’re working on a conference-record 22-game league winning streak.
SOU will conclude the regular season Friday and Saturday before hosting the CCC Championships May 3-5.
